Ion Optics, Inc. Becomes ICX Photonics
Billerica, MA – March 1, 2007 –ICx Technologies, a developer of advanced technology solutions for homeland and military security, today announced that its Ion Optics business unit is undergoing an official name change to coincide with the unit’s move to a new facility. ICx Ion Optics will now conduct business as ICx Photonics. This new name more accurately reflects the business unit’s core competency in the development, manufacturing and marketing of next generation infrared (IR) wavelength tuned optical devices.
Ion Optics joined ICx Technologies in 2005. Since that time, the unit’s product development plans have accelerated. Under its new name, ICx Photonics looks to build on the growth it has seen in the past two years for its line of IR light emitting sources and integrated IR sub-systems. These devices are successfully deployed both with the military as advanced friend or foe identifiers and in industrial gas sensing systems.
Originally based in Waltham, MA, ICx Photonics has moved into a new facility in nearby Billerica, MA. The new 20,000 square foot facility will provide additional space for enhanced research and development efforts and increased production capabilities. The leading edge photonics research performed by the unit’s scientists and engineers drives new product development and enhances the performance of current devices.
“As a growing part of ICx Technologies, our development efforts expanded beyond the capacity of our old facility,” said David Smith, president of ICx Photonics. “The new facility provides the space we have needed to expand our production and development operations.”
ICx Photonics leads the industry in advanced infrared photonic devices which permit IR emissions, absorption and transmissions to be spectrally tuned. These breakthrough devices have been successfully integrated into NDIR gas sensing systems as well as IR beacons and markers for defense and identification applications.
