Remote IR Calibration Target

Remote IR Calibration Target

Infrared scene generators and blackbody sources are used in Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) ground test facilities to test IR surveillance, targeting and tracking systems, to test functional capabilities of complex and expensive seeker systems and to reduce the risk associated with expensive flight tests. There is need for a low-cost, portable infrared source with calibrated radiometric output vs temperature to verify, and if necessary correct, seeker calibrations immediately prior to deployment.

ICX Photonics is developing a tripod-mounted infrared source which is fully-programmable and will present to the seeker any apparent temperature between 50ºC and 800ºC. The unit is easy-to-use and can even allow front-line units to check seeker algorithms and correct look-up tables in-the-field.
